On Highway Diesel Truck Emission Rules

Transport Topics has published an outline of the new emissions standards titled "Calif. Sets Strict Diesel Emissions Rule."

"The California Air Resources Board Friday adopted the strictest diesel emission standards in the nation, requiring expensive diesel particulate filters on rigs on a timetable, over objections the rule could hurt or shut down smaller trucking companies, the Associated Press reported.

Starting in 2011, the new rules will speed up the replacement of thousands of older trucks and buses that are not as clean as newer models that have tougher, federally mandated emissions standards, AP said."

Smoke Testing

Diesel System Services offers fleet Smoke Testing conforming to (SAE) J1667 snap acceleration test procedure. California law requires that owners of California-based trucks and bus fleets perform annual smoke test inspections of their diesel vehicles. All California-based fleets of two or more Heavy-duty vehicles of (gross vehicle rating over 6000 lb.) are required to perform annual smoke and tamper inspection of their fleet. This law has been in effect since July 1, 1998 but just recently the ARB has been actively enforcing the regulations. To ensure compliance, the Air Resources Board will randomly audit fleets maintenance and inspection records and perform on site smoke test to verify compliance. For more information regarding the ARB regulations visit www.arb.ca.gov. Diesel System Services can perform the Smoke Test, troubleshoot the cause of a Smoke Test FAILURE and offer repair services.

To schedule on-site or in shop smoke testing or for more information, you may contact us at (619) 733-1108.
